Travel Trailer Covers

Buying travel trailer covers can be expensive and time consuming; with the amount of choice available, different manufacturers and types of something which seems to be a fairly simple concept, it can be hard to make the choice between them. Picking between different travel trailer covers can be made easy when one knows a little bit more about them, the features that help protect your trailer from the elements best.

The first choice when choosing travel trailer covers is to decide between a custom and universal cover. Obviously, universal covers are one-size-fits-all and custom covers are tailor made to your trailer. The price difference reflects the amount of extra work involved in purchasing a custom cover, and so this is a decision to think about carefully. If your trailer was a serious investment, then you'll need to make an equally serious investment in your travel trailer covers – if not then you might consider the universal fit for convenience and economy.

You might not think that travel trailer covers are that important, especially if you're keeping your trailer under a roof such as a garage. However, there are various important benefits created by the use of travel trailer covers. If kept outside, one of the effects is to protect the van from the effects of the sun's rays, keeping it cooler and preventing the sun from fading the finish, or forcing the metallic parts to wear through heat-expansion and contraction. You want a travel trailer cover that is breathable and yet impermeably by rain and snow – it is important that your trailer cover allows natural moisture and condensation to escape before it turns into mold and mildew, whilst keeping your trailer impervious to external moisture.

This highlights the two most important features of travel trailer covers – their durability and breath-ability. It's no good buying a very breathable but flimsy fabric which will either allow moisture in, or wear away through use, the wear and tear of putting the cover on and taking it off. Equally, it would be counter productive to buy travel trailer covers that are thick and sturdy but do not allow the vehicle to breathe and dispel the natural moisture that builds up in any closed space over time.

Another important feature of working travel trailer covers is their contours. Corners must be reinforced by extra fabric in order to prevent the cover from tearing when you pull it off the vehicle, by catching on pointy edges. When looking at the tightness of the material, the balance is hard to strike with universal travel trailer covers – you want it to be tight in order to keep the elements out, but loose enough to make the cover easy to take off again. This is often the clincher when people are deciding between universal and custom covers – if the fit is so important, how am I going to find the right fit for my R.V? Overall, make sure you fully take into account all the most important features of travel trailer covers before purchasing, and make an investment which is appropriate to the amount that you spent on the RV in the first place.
